Humble Beginnings

If you are reading this, then more than likely you’ve been pestered by me about doing this for awhile now. If you’ve stumbled on this, let me introduce you to my attempt of blogging one of my last youthful endeavors in 2026: The Walk of the World.

What do I mean by this? Well, the Walk of the World, also known as: International Four Days Marches - Nijmegen, Internationale Vierdaagse Afstandsmarsen Nijmegen, is the largest multiple-day marching event in the world, with tens of thousands of participants from around the world. As the title implies, it is hosted in Nijmegen, Netherlands, which is roughly 50-60 miles south of Amsterdam (~90 km for metric folk, and this comes important..) The walk itself consists of distances ranging from as low as 30 km, and as high as 50 km, daily, for 4 days. Take a look at the historical context behind it here.

The walk itself is an extraordinary feat on itself, and there’s varying levels to it, depending on your age, gender (or sex), and whether or not you are participating as a military person representing your country. As a male of the US Military, I would be participating in that aspect, which has it’s own set of rules. But generally:

If you are Male, born between 1977-2007 and registering as a civilian, the event requires you to walk 50 km. However, if you are like me, the distances are dropped to 40 km daily, but with the caveats of 1) wearing your official military uniform, and 2) carrying a backpack (or similar) that weighs up to 10 kg (or 22 pounds for my fellow imperial folks).

I will post more info on a simplified FAQ on this page, but you can find out more yourself here:

Stay tuned for updates…….. They will come!
