The Walk of the World (known officially as International Four Day Marches Nijmegen) is a 4 day walk challenge where participants walk distances of 30-50km depending on age, sex, and military participation. See here for more information.
-
To challenge yourself of course. It is the largest multi-day walk challenge event where tens of thousands from across the world participate. Plus, if you are military and participate as such, you earn the cross of the Four Day Marches, which can be worn on your uniform as a foreign award.
-
You can register here when registration happens. The cost can be relatively high; generally it cost 130 Euros, not to include travel expenses and hotels/lodging. If you participate as military, your living expenses are covered at Camp Heumensoord which is the Dutch military base designed for this training event.

If you are interested in registering for the military version of the event, there are specific Points of Contact to get started. You can find your PoCs here.

I am documenting my journey through this for myself (self tracking and a sense of accomplishment) and for others to follow as need be. I will be posting my thoughts, training, woes, experiences, and overall journey in participating in this once-in-a-lifetime event.

The Walk of the World is a yearly event that takes place every 3rd week of July (for 2026, it takes place July 21st through the 24th).
This takes place in the city of Nijmegen, Netherlands.
I plan on participating as a military individual, where I will have to walk 40km per day (Tuesday through Friday) in uniform while carrying 10 kg (22 lbs).
From the end of January till July, I will be training and posting my experiences, challenges, adjustments, recommendations, and full event here, and various social media platforms. -
I plan on updating primarily this site, so check it periodically. I plan on doing at least Bi-weekly updates on the weekends, but it’s no guarantee (I still have a civilian job and family to take care of!).
I also am considering other things, such as a Signal/WhatsApp group chat, Discord, Youtube Shorts, Instagram, etc. -
To be honest; No.
The main reason is due to the rule changes for participation, one of which is a requirement to “march” in formation, which can add considerable time to the day (on average, it takes 8-12 hours to walk 40 km. Formation stuff may add more time, or worse, force participants in a pace that is not sustainable).
The other reasons are due to the initial cost and time consideration for training and participation. If too many people drop out before the event starts, it could lead to the team being disqualified before even getting there.
That is not to say we cannot meet up once there and walk together, that is allowed. The Military Team participation is a different set of rules and requirements I do not want to get into for this year.
